Preparation steps:

1. Rinse 1 cup of basmati rice under cold water until clear, then soak for 30 minutes. Drain thoroughly.
2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, stirring until they sizzle.
3. Add 1 finely sliced onion, saute until golden brown.
4. Stir in 1 teaspoon each of minced garlic and ginger, and 2 green chilies, chopped.
5. Add 1 cinnamon stick, 4 cloves, and 4 cardamom pods. Cook until fragrant.
6. Incorporate 1 cup mixed vegetables (like peas, carrots, and beans) and saute for 2-3 minutes.
7. Add drained rice, stirring gently to coat grains with spices.
8. Pour in 2 cups water and 1 teaspoon salt. Bring to a boil.
9. Lower heat, cover pan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender.
10. Fluff gently with a fork and serve hot.
