Preparation steps:

1. Rinse 1 cup of rice and 1/2 cup of toor dal thoroughly.
2. In a pot, combine rice, dal, 4 cups of water, and a pinch of turmeric, then cook until soft.
3. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of ghee. Add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida.
4. Stir in 1 chopped onion, 1 diced carrot, 1 chopped tomato, and cook until soft.
5. Mix in 1 tablespoon bisibele baath powder and 1/2 teaspoon tamarind paste.
6. Combine cooked rice-dal mixture with sauteed vegetables, and simmer for 5 minutes.
7. Adjust salt and garnish with fresh coriander and roasted cashews. Serve hot.
